Your baby needs help being calm and steady. He seems so small and helpless; you might think that what you do doesn’t matter. Not true. He does best when you pay attention to his signs. Feed him and care for him the way he wants you to. You won’t spoil him. You can’t spoil a tiny baby.
Here is what your baby can do:
- He knows when he needs to wake up and go to sleep, and shows you.
- He knows when he is hungry or full, and shows you.
- He likes you to talk with him, and likes some ways of talking more than others.
- He likes you to hold him, and likes some ways of holding more than others.
- He stops crying when you pick him up – until he gets hungry. Then he wants to eat.
- He tunes in to the look on your face and likes it when you smile and look interested.
